They never looked back after Pounder drove home after chesting down a corner from the right in the second minute, to give Rovers keeper Steve Perrin no chance.

Then five minutes later he netted his tenth goal of the season from a great ball by Cleveland Taylor, whose solo run found Pounder on the spot to drive the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.

Rovers could find only an isolated reply, but had their chances through Alex Sykes and Adie Adams, before they were awarded a 22nd minute when David Ridler handled.

But Alex Meechan's spot-kick was well saved when keeper Andy Woods dived and blocked the ball with his feet.

Rovers worked hard to get back into the game through Kayode Odejayi and Steve Cowe but Scarborough proved to be on top form for their penultimate home game of the season.

Meechan produced Rovers' best chance in the first half with a shot which scraped the wrong side of the upright with Woods beaten.

Scarborough's Taylor earned well deserved applause for a brilliant goal after Keith Gilroy set him up in midfield, and he raced down the wing, to beat two defenders and drive the ball into the right-hand corner of the net in the 51st minute.

The game became a lacklustre affair, but Scarborough could have enhanced their scoreline through Pounder who went within inches of completing his hat-trick and Gareth Stoker whose well placed volley was blocked on the line.

Rovers rallied in the late stages thanks to Odejayi and Adams, but Scarborough showed the polish and confidence which has been lacking in so many matches this season and comfortably absorbed the pressure.
