Northwich changed their manager but their luck only got worse.

They turned in a wretched performance and were unfortunate enough to come up against a centre-forward whose lucky star was shining upon him.

Sam Bowen, a recent signing from Westfields, headed a hat-trick for Forest Green to inflict Northwich's worst home result of the season.

It was all too much for new boss Shaun Teale who said: "I knew it would be difficult, but I didn't know exactly how difficult until today.

"There is a lot of work to do. That performance was simply not good enough for this club. It wasn't all doom and gloom, we had our bright spells, but the end was a fiasco." Vics started brightly enough and Steve Garvey forced a fine save from Steve Perrin and Colin Potts struck the crossbar all in the opening ten minutes.

But Rovers weathered the storm and took the lead on the half hour when Damon Searle's free-kick dropped into the six-yard box and Bowen somehow managed to squeeze home a header.

Vics picked themselves up towards the break and Nick Young almost surprised Perrin with a ten-yard shot.

It was enough to inspire another lively spell from the home side after the resumption and they would have drawn level had Perrin not been equal to Chris Blackburn's 30-yard thunderbolt.

But Forest Green began to build some smart breakaways and Alex Meechan brought an acrobatic stop from Andy Ralph before the same player increased the lead in the very next attack.

The striker showed neat control after finding Blackburn out of position and then turned the defender before hitting an angled shot into the opposite top corner of the net.

Northwich tried to rally and Potts brought a save from Perrin and then Chris Thompson burst through only to finish so weakly that the Rovers goalkeeper only had to stoop to pick the ball up.

The Vics collapsed entirely in the closing stages. From another swift break Darren Jones caught Northwich undermanned and his far-post cross was headed into the roof of the net by Bowen.

A minute later, a Richard Kennedy centre was dropped by Ralph and Blackburn was slow to react.

But not so Bowen, who stooped to head his third of the game and at the finish he scampered off clutching the match ball.
