Hereford 1 Forest Green 1

Hereford United, on the back of a run of four wins on the bounce, came up against a Forest Green Rovers side with a rugged defence and pace and penetration in attack to merit their point.

The Bulls had taken the lead through John Grant who played a neat one-two with Steve Guinan before firing past Steve Perrin, but two former Hereford players quickly combined to get Rovers back on terms, when Steve Cowe's cross was headed in powerfully by Neil Grayson.

After Paul Parry had forced a save from Perrin with a fine run and shot in the 17th minute, it was Rovers who had the better of the first half.

Only a brilliant save by Matt Baker foiled Grayson when the veteran striker got in a bullet header from Gary Owers’ free-kick and then Kayode Odejayi should have least forced a save when Matt Russell's good cross picked him out on the six-yard line, but he headed tamely wide.

Guinan, with five goals in his last four games was unlucky not to add to his tally on the hour with a volley that clipped the crossbar, but the Bulls did not have long to wait for Grant to notch his first goal for the club.

At the other end, Grayson's strike was the first goal conceded by Hereford in 488 minutes.

"It’s taken a weight off my shoulders to get my first goal at last," said Grant. "Now I hope that will be the start of a good run." "I think a draw was a first result," said Rovers boss Colin Addison. "We knew it would be difficult, particularly considering we were up against the Conference's form sides."
