In their last home game of the season Forest Green Rovers dented the play-off hopes of Aldershot Town with a fine performance to take all three points.

Rovers were inches away from taking an early lead when Hugh McAuley's in-swinging free-kick found Kevin Langan, whose header bounced off the foot of the right hand post and straight into goalkeeper Richard Barnard's arms.

The home side continued to dominate but against the run of play Aldershot were awarded a penalty when Matt Green was adjudged to have brought down Tim Sills in the box. Up stepped Roscoe D'Sane to convert the penalty.

Despite the setback Rovers continued to press forward with Martin Foster and Matt Aubrey both going close.

They were rewarded four minutes into the second half when Martin Foster, from a free-kick, squared the ball to Alex Sykes and his low drive only brought a parry from Barnard and Langan, returning from injury, fired in the rebound.

It came as no surprise when Forest Green took the lead 19 minutes from time. Dominic Stirling's pass back to Barnard was fumbled by the keeper and when Alex Meechan tried to take the loose ball round him Barnard tripped him, leaving the referee with no option but to award the second penalty of the game.

From the spot Damon Searle sent Barnard the wrong way.

Rovers win was complete five minutes from time when Foster sent Aubrey racing down the right wing and he held the ball up well before crossing to Steve Cowe to fire in to the left hand corner from close range.
