Forest Green Rovers grabbed a vital win against fellow strugglers Tamworth to move themselves away from the relegation zone.

The Lambs could have taken the lead after six minutes when Marc McGregor latched onto a flick, only to miskick sending the ball well wide of the left-hand post.

Forest Green dug deep and took the lead after 13 minutes when Damon Searle picked up Neil Grayson's square ball and his flick on fell to Scott Rogers whose first-time left-footed drive squirmed beneath Tamworth keeper James Lindley into the net.

Five minutes later it could have been two when an inswinging free-kick was poorly punched away by Lindley and Martin Foster's attempted 30-yard lob went just over the bar.

Tamworth thought they had equalised after 22 minutes when a corner was headed in by Richard Dryden but the referee ruled that keeper Steve Perrin had been fouled.

Eight minutes into the second half the visitors equalised when Norman Sylla raced onto a long ball forward and his first-time cross from the right wing found Jason Blunt who finished from close range.

Despite being under pressure Rovers' winner came 17 minutes from time when Alex Sykes' deep cross sent youth team graduate John Cant clean through and he fired the ball past Lindley into the right-hand corner of the net.
