Forest Green Rovers threw away the chance to go 12 points clear of the drop allowing Farnborough to equalise three minutes from time.

Quite how they did not wrap the game up is anybody's guess as they missed a hatful of clear chances with Paul Moore and Alex Meechan being the two main culprits.

Farnborough themselves could have taken an early lead. Ali Chaaban was played through but his low shot was powered behind by Rovers goalkeeper Steve Perrin.

The first gilt-edged chance came after 14 minutes from a defensive clearance. Meechan raced through the Farnborough defence and did the hard part by going round keeper Mark Osborn only to lose his footing.

He had a second opportunity four minutes later, again leaving the Farnborough defence in his wake but he hesitated and a defender got back to block his effort.

Rovers still had to be alert though. Howard Forinton's shot on the turn needed Perrin to tip the ball wide of the left-hand post.

Midway through the first half Damon Searle's deep cross fell to Martin Foster whose drive was only parried by Osborn and Moore's follow up went wide.

Just before the half hour, Meechan picked up Searle's ball forward and played a neat one-two with Scott Rogers before being brought down by Osborn in the box.

The referee pointed to the spot and Denny Ingram sent the keeper the wrong way slotting the ball into the right-hand corner.

Less than a minute into the second half, Rovers should have gone further ahead. Jon Richardson's cross from the right wing found Moore unmarked at the back post but his free header went straight into the keeper's arms from close range.

Just after the hour, it was Meechan again who squandered an opportunity racing onto Perrin's goal-kick but, with just the keeper to beat, his drab effort went wide of the left-hand post.

Rovers were made to pay the penalty for missing so many opportunities when Richard Hodgson's free-kick found Paul Harkness racing through to head the ball into the net and give the visitors a share of the points.
