Forest Green 1 Aldershot 3

Waiting for them there will be either Grays Athletic or Margate, but for the Gloucestershire outfit, the opportunity to advance in a lucrative cup run will have to be put to bed for another year.

Forest Green were to pay heavily for what can only be described as a sloppy start when Tims Sills headed Aldershot into the lead with just five minutes gone.

The goal should have been avoided but due to poor defending and a moment of hesitancy from keeper Steve Perrin, Sills was able to coolly lob his header home to give Aldershot the advantage.

After that though, Forest Green responded well and came close to equalizing when Richard Kennedy found space in the box to unleash a shot straight at Richard Barnard.

Then on 20 minutes, Barnard was to have no such luck as he was clinically beaten at the near post when Steve Cowe met Martin Foster's cross with a powerful header.

The home side were now the livelier of the two, with Aldershot looking shaky at the back and with sub Alex Sykes threatening from both long and short range.

Still it could and should have been the visitors who went in at half time with the lead. However Roscoe D'Sane, when clean through on goal, dragged his shot wide of the post on the stroke of the break.

The game was then put beyond Forest Green in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Two goals both from corners, gave the first side an uphill struggle and you could never really see them finding their way past Terry Brown's stylish outfit.

Two minutes into the second period, defender Ray Warburton's bullet header from Adam Miller's corner set them on their way.

But the travelling support were singing even louder five minutes later when another corner, this time from Jason Chewins was met firmly by Aaron McLean to hand Aldershot a two-goal cushion.

Forest Green did create chances after that. Skipper Gareth Stoker drew Barnard into a fine save from 25 yards out and came close with another header.

But in the end it was Aldershot who always looked the more likely to add to the scoresheet in what was an entertaining finish at The Lawn.
