Paul Mullin was on target twice for Accrington as they made light work of beating strugglers Forest Green.

Ged Brannan gave the home side a 40th minute lead, before Mullin doubled Accrington's advantage four minutes later.

Mullin was on target again shortly after the hour mark before substitute John Durnin sealed matters with a 73rd minute goal.

Damon Searle scored a consolation from the penalty spot with nine minutes remaining, but then the damage had already been done.

Defeat was particularly hard to swallow for Rovers who conceded four goals for the second game running following a miserable 4-0 defeat at the hands of Morecambe Town in their last match.

Rovers are now 17th in the table after their fourth away defeat of the season, while Accrington are sitting comfortably in eighth place after their 13th home win of the domestic campaign.

Accrington will be especially pleased with their victory having suffered a 2-1 defeat against Forest Green in August, just when the season was getting underway.

This time around Accrington were determined not to suffer another surprise slip-up.

As early as the seventh minute Mullin forced an excellent save out of Rovers goalkeeper Steve Perrin with a bullet header.

Ian Fitzpatrick went close for the visitors four minutes later, but his shot was saved by Accrington shot-stopper James Speare.

At the other end Andrew Proctor shot wide for the home side, before Forest Green's Alex Meechan had a shot saved by Speare.

However, the breakthrough came when Brannan unleashed a powerful drive which left Perrin with no chance.

And soon after Mullin was on target with a powerful header which gave Accrington a healthy cushion at half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half Brannan shot wide before Mullin found the back of the net for the second time with another header.

Durnin then came off the bench to make it 4-0. To their credit Forest Green battled on and when Hugh McAuley felled Peter Cavanagh in the box, Searle was presented with the opportunity to score from the spot. He didn't miss - but there was no way back for the visitors.
